We coming at you with a phat one this time around...Scheme LLC Merchandising is strong this week, with some additional write ups about KILL YOUR IDOLS and Hardway Records..
SCHEME REPORT:
We got some breaking news in the Scheme camp this week: first off, with some shock and awe, we are happy to announce that the ALMIGHTY WATCHING 7” will be up for ordering and unveiled to the world on January 2nd, 2022…..there will be copies in hand at FYA and a record release of some nature in January in CT, more info soon.
Next after weeks of hyping it up, Kyle was locked in a room for three days with only his computer, cold brew, bad fanzines and a couple dollar bin records....he emerged holding the Scheme Newsletter Vol. 1 Zine:
It compiles the first ten previous newsletters into a 48 page, full size zine with some additional content. We can only spice up these online newsletters so much, so think of these zines as our true vision of what we want to give you, the loyal consumer.
To continue the shilling, we have some tees in the store as well….the back print is funny….shout outs to SUPERTOUCH - The Painted Sky:
If you order the shirt, you’ll get a copy of the zine alongside it for free. Also, if you have any open orders from us that haven’t shipped out yet - hit us up if you’re looking to grab something else so we can save some $ on shipping.
Finally, we only have a handful of ALMIGHTY WATCHING & WRECKAGE tapes left. We’ll probably stop making em after this batch, so grab one now while you still can.
All of this and more can be found in our store, the mecca of hardcore merchandise:
SCENE REPORT:
As I sit in W 40th La Colombe, I scrap the bottom of the barrel for tidbits and crumbs to regale you about in this beacon of scene shin-fo. ALMIGHTY WATCHING will be playing one (for now) show on the drive down to FYA in January and that will be in or around Atlanta Georgia with our brothers in arms RESTRAINING ORDER and WORN along with the newest dodatdodat sensation..SPY. That show is January 6th, that Friday will be spent recreating MORBID ANGEL promo pics in scenic Saint Pete or suffering head trauma at the 100 DEMONS pre show. Only time will tell.
As far as more shows we ain’t got none planned for the new year but expect a CTHC event of some caliber in late January to commemorate an event we can’t just yet jinx out of existence.
As far as non self centered scene news: WORNs got a CD out that collects the last couple years of their musical output available from From Within, RESTRAINING ORDER and WARFARE have a 7” split on the horizon that is no longer than 3 minutes on each side and Wreck-age Records (not da band) is back and re-releasing SILENT MAJORITY’s Life of a Spectator next year.

Kill Your Idols “Last” Show
In honor of the upcoming KILL YOUR IDOLS show that is coming up soon on Long Island, I wanted to revisit a classic video and one of the few sets I wish I was actually able to see as a kid..probably the first hardcore video I became obsessed with.
Context: KYI was breaking up and had a weekend of last shows on Long Island/Brooklyn...the first two happened without a problem, Smithtown Masonic on Friday and 538 Johnson on Saturday, but during CRIME IN STEREO first song at the Sunday show, fire marshalls came and shut it down due to over capacity.
I went to both the Long Island shows and this is where my night ended, as I was a sixteen year old with no friends who couldn’t drive and had to call my mom to pick me up early (the show was also on Mothers Day so I skipped out on that...sorry mom).
However, some plans were made on the DL and the show was able to get moved to the parking lot of a practice space in Lindenhurst (LIHC hotbed) where 200ish people were able to see em rip through their set while cops were en route...I remember getting home and checking the local message board and being soooo bummed that I missed out after seeing the update of the show but such is life.
Couple days after, Darren Nanos (shout outs) uploaded the aforementioned video and I just remember watching it constantly. It was the perfect way to end the band and I’m glad it was documented.
Hardway Records Discography
Every once in awhile, I like to just pick a label and revisit the entire catalog if it’s quick enough...today we’ll be punishing you with some unnecessary words on Stephen Bessac from KICKBACKs label, Hardway…..
HR01 Disciplinary Action - Disciplinary Action (1992)
Long Island skinhead metallic hardcore...think NEGLECT style vocals but with BULLDOZE parts. You got some random overdubbed solos on some songs...dope mosh parts and just a pissed off vibe that sounds genuine and not forced. I can almost bet that at least one member of this band is currently holding it down as a union supermarket grocer in the deli department somewhere on Long Island.
I really think this band is underrated in the grand scheme of people that are down with this style of hardcore…I don’t think random weird midwest kids need to worship them like they do NEGLECT (you can only like Neglect if you’re from NY or UK/EU..that’s a fact), but I think they could use some more respect put on them.
While not featured on this 7”, they got a song about driving down Sunrise Highway in a truck for work….been there…..done that.
HR02 Confusion - Taste Of Hate (1992)
I haven’t listened to this record in a long time….forgot how ill this is. I always wondered why the nerdy type of hardcore kid latched onto this record instead of some their contemporaries and upon revisisting it...it’s probably cuz it’s pretty dope. Good logo, great cover art, good gritty vocals, dope groove, some funny lead guitar noodling..it’s got it all for a classic 7”. Can’t really say much except that I’ll probably be listening to this for the next couple days.
HR03 All Out War - Destined To Burn (1994)
The first release from the kings of the Hudson Valley...this is where they begin to ascend to royalty and take their throne. These songs are sick but I think they got their true justice when they were rerecorded on Truth In The Age Of Lies. I do have to say..the break part halfway through Destined To Burn is much superior here…..it really does sound like the devil is whispering into your ear and telling you to do bad shit.
ALL OUT WAR has objectively never had a bad record...sure you might prefer some of the earlier material but you can’t say that any record is straight up shitty….that’s how you know a band has a real legacy.
HR04 Bulldoze - Remember Who’s Strong (1994)
The band that changed it all and unintentionally created one of the most notorious type of goober hardcore identities: beatdown kid. Let’s set the record straight: BULLDOZE is a hardcore band, through and through.
These are my preferred Bulldoze recordings...they still sound raw and unpolished, in the best way. What is now common fare riffage, the break riff in Beatdown was probably mindblowing to hear at the time...Bulldoze the song is a certified classic, almost line is quotable:
“Hatred….”
“Growing up…”
“I walk hard….”
The first time I saw BULLDOZE was during a TERRORZONE set at the Superbowl of Hardcore in ‘09 as a young buck. Kevone said that you “better watch out” for him during CROWN OF THORNZ’s set, for which he then promptly stood dead center and one punch KO’d anyone that came within a couple feet of him.
I never grabbed a copy of the BULLDOZE zine that came out a year or two ago….if you’re holdin, hit my line.
HR05 End Of One - The Aftermath (1996)
Kyle summed up essentially what my thoughts are on the band in a previous newsletter (“...you can wear Tommy Hilfiger and play death metal if you really want to…”). But quick thoughts: think a little more thugged out version of version of ALL OUT WAR with more death metal influence….our confidants in Streets Of Hate rereleased this 7” on a CD with some demo and live tracks that I think is currently being repressed. Maybe they’ll play out soon to support that….whoooooo knowsssssss
HR06 Backstabbers - Backstabbers (1998)
Doing exercises like this are fun cuz you’ll find random stuff like this record that you probably would have never checked out otherwise….it’s a pretty cool record that sounds almost like an amalgamation of all of these previous records combined so it’s a good record to end the label on. It’s good dollar bin 7” vibe that was actually pressed onto a 10”, increasing the points cuz 10”s are underrated and only good records are graced onto 10”s…..
I’m sure there are probably some people who swear by this band and there is (hopefully) some deeplore about this band in the Belgium hardcore scene that I’m not privy to...if you got more info, hit us up via email and drop some knowledge.
