Besides those, it seems like there are shows straight up every weekend in the North Eazt that we can't even list em all...however, we do want to rep the WORN record release show in August (we stand with the C4 record). The lineup is a great representation of modern, current hardcore.
The In Effect book is up now for ordering, you can order that via the link here. In addition, you should subscribe to Shining Life's newsletter for future updates on upcoming releases. Kyle has got something cooking up for em now.
Keeping up with the proliferation of hardcore books, the Better Never Than Late Midwest hardcore book from Radio Raheem is dope: it sparked deep research in finding more info about the band MCDONALDS, who were featured on a handful of flyers. Spoiler: it sucks. Awesome name though. BURGER KING demo coming soon on Scheme.
The STANDSTILL 12" EP came out last week and it’s a refreshing return to the melodic hardcore that Long Island was known for years ago. Think THE MOVIELIFE melodic hardcore, not "thirty four year old guy who liked VERSE a little too much" melodic hardcore. It's available via a co-release between Daze and New Morality, get a copy now.
The Coming Strife has put up pre orders for the MOURNING 12" Four Years Of Grief, compiling all of their previous shit, plus a new song. I’d say order it but shit, looks like it’s already sold out. Dope. They're one of the few bands that do straight KICKBACK / ALL OUT WAR worship right without coming off as corny or fruity. For the US heads, I believe that Lumpy is getting distro copies so acquire one from Daze once they are in.

Withstand @ Saratoga Winners WVCR Benefit 1994
“All you mothafuckas bounce to this”
WITHSTAND was a band from Albany/Troy that I don’t shut the fuck up about. Cool riffs, great vibe, members of DYING BREED (Mike Stack) and PUSHBUTTON WARFARE (Justin Markou). When you listen to the Light Of A New Day EP or the Anger Was A Warm Place To Hide full length you’re actually able to fully manifest what exactly you’re now seeing with your own eyes in this video. The song captures what seems like an extended version of the song “Second To One” being played really long and for one reason only...the dancin. The band existing in unison with the crowd who has been called to invade the stage, this is the perfect example of the stark difference between what you call “moshing” and what we call “dancin,” it's all about rhythm. People feeling the music and feeling themselves and looking sick in the way only Mid 90s through most of the STIGMATA shows I’ve been to in Albany can look. (Editor's note: the homie who introduces himself at 0:26ish is what it’s all about and maybe the best of the video...he is truly straight vibing.)
ORIGINAL SINZ: END OF ONE
Alright so the END OF ONE discography is available today from Streets Of Hate, you don’t have to know what END OF ONE is unless you’re an 845 diehard or an obsessive for “upstate” Death-Metal-Core so if you’re unfamiliar go check out the bio they put up with the CD / shirt (designed by me...Kyle..), which leads to the real meat of this subsection.
Design..I’m not particularly good at it but I’m worse at other things surely. I don’t know what kerning is, but my hill to die is on that I know what a period appropriate hardcore release looks like. When you’re doing something like throwing together a CD discography for a band that's stood out in your life as something cool you want to do something that fully reflects why that band is COOL while also providing some context to someone who may not have the direct 2nd hand view of a band that hasn't had music in print or played a show in 21+ years.
The important parts of this project were 1.) Getting the music back out 2.) Showing people that you can wear Tommy Hilfiger and play death metal if you really want to. Alex from SOH was able to collect tens of photos from the singer of END OF ONE, Beetle, and some flyers from the North Eazt hardcore living legend Carl Gunhouse, a guy whos always down to help and has seen all the good stuff through the lens of his camera. Also Jose, the guitar player of END OF ONE and songwriter on Condemned to Suffer provided a rare live video of the band that his dad shot at The Chance 22 years ago that we were able to clean the audio up on for somethings that's exclusive to the CD.
Like I said I think END OF ONE is cool, I don’t think they're the BAD BRAINS or YOUTH OF TODAY but they were Jay from MINDFORCE's favorite band, Ben Grippo played bass (Connecticut's dopest), Stephen KICKBACK put out their sole 7” EP, being members of ALL OUT WARs best line up...and Beetle drew the first OUT FOR JUSTICE logo. The list could go on but I think I said enough to illustrate my point, they’re an important band because they are a keystone of friendships that span decades and without them maybe some more recognizable bands would fail to exist in the ways that we know them. All in all, the release of Original Sinz draws together Hudson Valley Hardcore, brutal death metal and most importantly friendships that withstand the test of time 20+ years later.
