SCHEME DISPATCH FROM THE SCARAB WALL:001
Burning Lord - Arcane Demolition not out now on Scheme Records, more info inside.
(Not a paid promotion, also not about the band SCARAB…this time)
This special edition of the SCHEME Newsletter is written under duress, the thought that people think SCHEME only exists to make the huge huge huge hardcore dollars stirs me awake night after night. So to rebuke these venomous and insidious claims I put together this play by play of the newest STREETS OF HATE release.. From the originators and innovators … BURNING LORD: APTLY titled “ARCANE DEMOLITION” 13 songs of big truck in the streets , sub compact in the sheets hardcore in just around 25 minutes .. and AVAILABLE NOW (SOMEONE else is making money this time…)
Cover art by Tattoo Wicklund
It’s a grave oversight and shame that the hardcore brain trust has taken this long to combine the concepts of the ARCANE and DEMOLITION… What two words in conjunction perfectly explain hardcore music with as little effort? If hardcore is about anything (fat chance) it’s probably found somewhere in the intersection of the mystical reasons people drive 5 hours to play a 20 minute set to get paid $200 and the raw energy that gets stages turned to dust, mics thrown through walls and blood flowing from eyeballs. All of these tribulations we enjoy and endure comes down to this simple amalgam of the unknowing and the shit we know all too well, the ethereal and carnal locked in a struggle where we exist in the tension between. This is absolutely not what these guys mean but I’m all juiced up on a big phat cup of ARCANE DEMOLITION. Enjoy a play by play of a record I’ve played 20 times in the last month.
STREETS OF HATE also has a newsletter but I refuse to speak to its fidelity but subscribe here for updates and possible musings.
LISTEN ALONG…
BEYOND THE SCARAB WALL (INTRO)
The clang and Wilhelm scream of (fantasy) battle, and the ambiance of a swirling deep space vortex lead you into the oncoming night where your greatest fears become reality and your salvation becomes just another day dream ...
CLIP MY WINGS
Something akin to smoking the dopest cig as fast as you can, bunch of black coffees and then knocking over all the shelves in A Crate & Barrel. A Boston Punk-HC-Metal anthem for a new age of confusion and chaos.
ABYSSAL CRUSADE
Owens overgrown toddler ass turning the bass inside out front to back on this one, It's got the quality of getting an unnumbered supply of hammers thrown at you from the top of some scaffolding and not dodging a single one..NOT OSHA approved but SCHEME endorsed
THE WEAKNESS
That skit at the beginning of Blood for Blood - Ace of Spades (an original song..not a cover..Im sure of it).
WCB
Boston goes BERGEN and I don’t mean New Jersey, than a quick U-turn right back onto the pike to slug it out with the broke asses and bums.
CANNIBALS
Without taping too deep in HC MAN hyperbole, what if the cover of Age of Quarrel had skinheads mashin around the atomic bomb explosion.. wouldn’t that be something..it would be cliché at this point surely but for a period of time some SKINS celebrating the inevitable nuclear winter with a dance of praise would be a shocking display.
NEVER AGAIN
A nightmare..an inner monologue. The panicked utterances of a man on the edge set to some elks basement jukebox HARDCORE
SOUL KEEPER
Burning Lord with a reloaded magazine, and it only takes 8 songs to get here. This is now canonically a classic CUT but this newest incarnation is on the juice like never before. The Soul Keeper has retired his wheat thresher and picked up a howitzer.
BURNING LORD
Music for the mission, an anthem for incineration with that copyrighten bounce and some OBITUARY style boosh-tality.
THE SNAKE
Another returning fan favorite on that same serum previously sipped on Soul Keeper, A track born on the cassette tape and reborn to kill again on 12”s of environment murdering plastic.
WE MOVE THE EARTH
A love letter to the labor movements that built and run this corrupt demon of a country..doing the job because the job needs to be done..much like writing the record ARCANE DEMOLITION or me waking up at 7:30 to write this newsletter.. This is what keeps the proverbial lights on.
WALLS OF FEAR
What's left unsaid about the hardcore song of 2nd quarter MMXXIII , originally featured on the SCHEME COMP, were happy to hear it back again as part of this masterpiece not only because it's a raging anthem of a man's desperate grasp at sanity but because we probably get points on it…but we’ll let the lawyers handle that.
ARCANE DEMOLITION
The namesake, and the BOLDest move known to modern man to date..Closing out your 12 ½ song debut LP with one of your toughest tunes to date. It comes on strong and ends with the splash of the gong like all good, powerful, and worthwhile endeavors often do
SCHEME related updates maybe coming next week but in short; your COLLATERAL records are in the mail, your ECHO CHAMBER records will be stateside in early May if all things go to plan, both of these records will be sold out before the Summer sun blesses our faces.
