SCHEME REPORT:
Greetings Scheme scholars and otherwise, we hope this blast finds you well. Before we get accused of it, yes this is a disgusting shill email designed to fleece you of your funds and limited patience for the grifting grafters of hardcore labelism. We got a fat grip of new wearables in the store that in a grandiose scheme were intended to adorn our FYA merch table but in the nature of this chaotic universe…they were just uhhh not there. Through shipping malfeasance, these garms bounced around the sunshine state all weekend and arrived a day late leaving us many dollars short. Believe us…we know you didn’t bring extra shirts to the fest in anticipation of being dripped out in SCHEME brand but measure that disappointment and inconvenience versus the thousands of minutes lost on calling disaffected postal clerks that had to be done to track this stuff down. All of that be damned, we have it now.. In a stack that measures the size of a small man. It all looks great, feels great, and makes you look great.
I cleared the air or the room in the first bit about this email being to try to sell you more stuff but if you stuck it out you now know that was all a rouse because the rest of this thing is jam packed with hardcore facts and figures that you really don’t need or possibly want..but alas its there for consumption if you do.
Since our last corresponce, WRECKAGE and ECHO CHAMBER absolutely smashed above their weight class at the lights on hc circus. In the words of one of my Germans in regards to WRECKAGE’s set “you wouldnt think people would dance so hard to a band like this”. That’s how you know WRECKAGE is dyed in the wool Connecticut Hardcore Music. Fast parts? We kick boxing…slow parts? Kickboxing…emo part? Touching our heads and thennnn kickboxing harder then ever. The madness doesnt stop at FYA, WRECKAGE got more shows than their bosses can shake a stick at coming this spring and summer.
The FYA fest served as the international Scheme summit. We got to formally convene with the well dressed and well mannered deutsche heroes of hardcore; ECHO CHAMBER. These guys showed up, and showed that it's no joke. It's been a minute since I felt the excitement that I was getting in the room before they played. It takes something special to show up to a show 3000 miles away from home, with no intention aside from playing.. No monetary gain, no ego, just doing it to do it. Maybe one day in the far future the (full) video of the set will surface and we can all re-witness something profoundly dope in an increasingly undope age. In the meantime, you can peep pictures of the set here via Jeff Lasich.
The Scheme comp ohhhhh the Scheme Comp…COMING SOONER THAN YOU OR I EVEN THINK.
SCENE REPORT:
The year started off strong..too strong.. We can’t keep up with the fervent appetite for hardcore destruction. I like to believe we rung it in with the WRECKAGE LP tho.. More shows than I can bare, a few records (RIOT STARES is p good… gets 3.5/5 Scheme S Hats) and much more I can't even begin to make note of. In this spirit of my brain slipping into the molten miasma and all my memories being whipped from this earth I’ll dig deep and make note of a few scene on goings on the horizons and maybe a couple in the recent past..

A CALL FOR UNITY VOL. 3 REVIEW:
While we prepare for the upcoming Scheme compilation, we looked to previous legendary hardcore comps for influence.....Where The Wild Things Are..The Way It Is...East Coast Assault...New Breed....Only The Strong...New York Thrash...End The Warzone...all fantastic comps that we could probably be wax poetic about and ballwash with a review. You know what you can't ballwash? The later installments in some of these comps. Yeah, A Call For Unity Vol. 1 is ill and the second is pretty good...but how good can the third one be? Let’s find out and give it a listen:
STRAIGHT SAVAGE STYLE:
ALBIN’S NOTE: Apologies to our international Scheme brother and sisterhood but opening a compilation with a six minute long song that is predonminantly an instrumental is truly insane, hats off Mr. Healy. Six minutes is truly too much, this aint Master of Puppets. Yeah, that one video of people dancing to this song is cool and all but I'm more a fan of Irish construction worker mosh than acrobatic mosh.
KYLE’S NOTE: MOMENT OF TRUTH live at St Vitus this Saturday afternoon!!
STRENGTH APPROACH:
ALBIN’S NOTE: The lyrics to this song are just an amalgamation of YOUTH OF TODAY song titles. It's awesome and bad at the same time. I feel like I have seen them on countless big MAD euro tour posters and assumed they sounded like big tent SICK OF IT ALL or something.
KYLE’S NOTE: Seen this band at least 2 times at the Wallingford American Legion…no comment
BORN FROM PAIN:
ALBIN’S NOTE: It's dopeeeeee...euro HATEBREED. Doin funny shit with your hand music.
KYLE’S NOTE: ALSO saw this band at the Wallingford American Legion
STRENGTH FOR A REASON:
ALBIN’S NOTE: PAHC.....it's dope and not much I can say. LaGrega (IYKYK..) music. Coolest acronym to say out loud..SFAR…….gangsta……
KYLE’S NOTE: Death Threat for Coal miners and car detailers.
NOT WITHOUT RESISTANCE:
ALBIN’S NOTE: They had me in the first half, not gonna lie....thought it was really bad until the break before the funny / awesome mosh part...then you got me all ears. Just when I thought I was out....they pull me back in. Scheme affiliate, Nick Herrmann (VOMIT FORTH), claims to have a burned CD of this band.
EYE 2 EYE:
ALBIN NOTE’S: Fantastic band that is actually underrated in an age where EGH/BCS/Irate/etc. are oddly now household names.
JAPANESE ROCK BLOCK:
ALBIN’S NOTE: It was at this point that I realized that this truly is an international comp and we have the Japanese rock block....none of these songs are outright bad but none stand out from my memory..ETERNAL B being short for ETERNAL BROTHERHOOD is wassup tho
RTL BLOCK:
ALBIN’S NOTE: First we got COMIN CORRECT with the YOT cover.....The greatest musical performance ever documented are the live tracks on the COMIN CORRECT - Str8 edge or not!! CD featuring the GOAT'd SHAM 69 cover...so many mentions of German pile ons. Let the record show that DAZE MAN's favorite 25 TA LIFE song for a long period was As One. As for the 25 TA LIFE track......Rick opens the song just saying dope hardcore words and phrases and its the coolest thing. Words that mean a lot to me..... with that said, the song isn't good. Remain true motherfuckers.
UKHC INTO EUROCORE:
ALBIN’S NOTE: These are the actual good tracks on the comp, and I don't have any jokes about them. They're all just generally good. bands. Once when I was in Belgium I went to Kirby LENGTH OF TIME / ARKANGEL’s record store unknowingly and bought an ARKANGEL record and didn't know it was him until after the fact. Call me embarrased.
KYLE’S NOTE: Putting all the dope tracks on what would be like disc 3 of a JRPG is a god mode move
THE OTHER TRACKS:
ALBIN’S NOTE: Yeaaaaaaa these songs aren't good. Not the token emo band with BLUE BEARD. Ending the comp with a band called ABSOLUTELY NO APPEAL is really funny.
How many more of these hats am I gonna have to buy
