We’re back with a phat one: This time with some observations on the newly released One Scene Unity comp, a concerning realization and discussion (why are there barely any hardcore records with the word “pimp” in their title?) and part two of our interview with VOMIT FORTH.
SCHEME REPORT:
ALMIGHTY WATCHING 7” (SCH-01) is ACTUALLY being mixed at this point, the record will be available in some form this decade. 2 Song Sampler-Advance-Promo-Demo tape will be available for mass consumption next week. Along with some other stuff so keep your eyes on your inbox. First show has been announced, a VERY Intimate evening with MINDFORCE that is in fact sold out. More shows soon.
??????????? ????? 7” (SCH-02) will be available in very limited quantities through some trials and tribulations for our loyal readers so once again keep your eyes peeled.
Oh and the first ALMIGHTY WATCHING song is featured on the second installment of the One Scene Unity comp. Give that a listen if you haven’t already. Someone said it sounds like LION OF JUDAH? Why not.
SCENE REPORT:
The Scene was alive and well this weekend, as it was Kyle from THE FIGHT’s bachelor party. We asked an anonymous attendee their thoughts on the event:
“We rode through Times Square in a stretch escalade, a guy in a blazer spilled beer on us and (REDACTED) threatened to suck my dick multiple times. I escaped and fled for my life. (REDACTED) texted me at two in the morning asking me for twenty dollars so I knew the after party was going well.”
In addition, this past weekend saw the release of the highly anticipated One Scene Unity Volume Two compilation, released by our peers at From Within Records. Here is a track-by-track breakdown of the comp by Kyle:
PAYBACK XXX - “The One Scene Unity Pt. 2”
"This songs a cry for help from a deranged man with decaying knees, I'd call bullshit on this if Keith wasn't hardcore musics most valiant defender."
MOMENT OF TRUTH - “Ascension"
"Ascension is just one of 5 (or 6) Death metal influenced hardcore tracks spanning the course of the comp, Are they influenced by NILE? I should ask. If you get where they're coming from maybe you'll feel what they're doing."
MINDFORCE - “I.R.D.A"
"Yeah obviously it's good, If you like MINDFORCE songs you will continue to like MINDFORCE songs."
BURNING STRONG - “What Goes Untold”
"Feels like music for a hardcore age thankfully gone by, they sound passionate about what they’re doing tho."
SKOURGE - “Enemy To Everyone”
"It's like MERAUDER for people who don't know nothin about dancin', also feels long."
INVOKE - “Violent Instinct”
"Generally can't get through a whole track but for some reason I'm vibin with this one. Has a fetal DYING FETUS vibe for a bit."
DEAD HEAT - “Light Me Up"
"Feels a lot more straight up than other DEAD HEAT tracks, longer track but has good pacing you don't get bored, N4Rdlife."
RAW BRIGADE - “War Misery”
"The track I've come back to the most, maybe because its just hardcore music played in the classic sense without weird tricks just ripping fast parts / intense vo-killz. Like CRO-MAGS and BREAKDOWN but from Bogota yoo."
PAIN OF TRUTH - “Snake In Disguise”
"The production feels like it's on the XXX soundtrack, It almost has a strange pop sensibility for a song about hunting down a former friend and presumably killing them or something."
STRYKER - “Fin De Una Era"
"No frills metallic hardcore, slightly above average for that playing field."
ALMIGHTY WATCHING - “Shatter”
"It’s sooooooooooooooo good, big ROBOT WHALES influence."
ONE ON ONE - “Hands Or The Gun”
"Greenfield Mike rides a cool motorcycle and is always carrying the burner...obviously this is good."
STRUCK NERVE - “Last One Standing”
"For a band I don't generally care for I think this song hits a great stride and is what they've been trying to get to do as a band the whole time they exist. It's reminiscent without sounding like a parody."
FINAL RITE - “Vengeance"
"Walden hxc...I'll say it first that the beginning of the track is deceptively close to a song DIVISION OF MIND would write but once you're through that you get an all out Hudson Valley style metallic attack. Intense vocals / straight forward lyrics with some almost UNBROKEN style delivery at times."
OUTNUMBERED - “Eye To Eye”
"FAST hardcore, not like VITAMIN X more like KNIFE FIGHT..driving bass line and a good 20 seconds of moshing part."
KRUELTY - “Close To Death”
"No way in hell I'm listening to a full 4 minutes of Japanese BOLT THROWER but it's gotta be pretty good from what I did listen to."
POINT OF CONTACT - “Trust”
"I've forgot that this song was on the comp at every turn, so it goes being the last song. It also doesn't help that it barely sounds like the POC LP, Not even in a bad way, I think it could be interesting to see where it goes from here...if it goes anywhere else."

PIMPIN AIN'T EASY…
As most people do - my brain loves to wonder and ponder inane shit while showering. The other day I thought to myself: “Why can’t I think of any hardcore bands that have the word ‘pimp’ in their record title?” I figured there must be countless bad nineties bands that do: be it either satirically or 100% seriously, it was the nineties and a lot of shit didn't make sense. My thought eventually led me to Discogs and I found my shocking answer: there are not that many. With that said, here are some reviews of select hardcore records that feature “pimp” in the title:
I wasn’t sure if this was a straight up Canadian nu-metal band before listening to this but they have a split with a pre-DAY OF MOURNING band that Dom Romeo was in, so I figured it’s gotta be core related, right? This might shock you; it’s still pretty nu-metal but just with a VISION OF DISORDER influence. The real standout of the album is the Devil Pimp™ on the artwork. We’ve come to cherish the devil's fashion aesthetic as a skinhead over time, so I think that it’s about damn time to put respect on him for switching it up and dressing like a pimp. If you have more info about this band and label - please reach out. I am so morbidly curious and want to learn more.
The name of the first song is “Emo Wigger Shot In The Face.” Fuck yeah.
I really wish the name of the first song wasn’t “Pushing Shit Back Into My Ass.” This record and band rules. You got Kevin Egan post-BEYOND just doing weirdo ABC No Rio-core and it was released on Freddy Alva’s label, Wardance. I would put a band like this in the upper echelon of dollar bin hardcore 7”s, it’s a great sleeper record that most people would probably pass on - however, you know a solid handful of weird people would swear that THIS is the best band of the era and will die with that sentiment. That’s how you know a record is good.
An interview with VOMIT FORTH
The second half of an interview with the thug(core) behind the brains of VOMIT FORTH. VOMIT FORTH announced their full US tour with SANGUISSIABOG today, the tour flyer with dates will be at the bottom.
How does it feel to be a part of Maggot Stomp? What label would you want to be on if you weren't on MS?
I think I've said this every chance I get but I'll say it again, working with someone that actually gives a shit about the music is dope. Scott was supporting us before we were even working together and that resonated with us more than someone else who was just trying to put our shit out just so they could say they did it. As for the label...Gain Ground...strictly to say I had a record on Gain Ground.
We've discussed it in the past. but what do you think about current death metal bands being elitists and showing no love to hardcore bands, old and new? With that said, what important historical hardcore band do you think could be written out of existence and the progression of the death metal timeline would still be the same? You think people are going to be down for the mixed show you booked with VOMIT FORTH, SIMULAKRA, BOWEL EROSION, STABBED and ALL DUE RESPECT in August?
I think that shits wack. With everything that's out there why would you want to limit yourself to only one lane. When I was getting into this shit I didn't care what it was and I still don't. If shit hit me then I rocked with it. I didn't refuse to listen to something because I wanted to be the strictly "war metal and only war metal" guy. That shit only matters to people who try to create some dumb internet persona for themselves. To kind of flip your question, I don't think there's really a singular hardcore band that shaped that progression to begin with. I think THAT influence kind of just crept its way into the music over time. I think people are hyped to go to ANY show right now, coming out of a global pandemic, so it felt like a good opportunity to do some shit like that and maybe put someone who's never been to a hardcore show before onto some shit they wouldn't normally check out. Vice-versa for whoever's only coming for SIMULAKRA and ALL DUE RESPECT.
Give us a tease and quick rundown about your new band LIVING WEAPON...what's the lineup for that band? What are the plans for it? I heard you're playing one of the KOYO record releases...is that going to be the first show or you got something in the pipeline?
I don't know what's good with the timeline of this interview, if the record will officially be out by the time this comes out, so I can't drop too many details. But it's some Northeastern styled tech shit. It's myself, Jeremy Martin, Jon Lhaubouet and Justin Legere. First show is the August 22nd date of the KOYO record releases. [Editors note: The demos I’ve heard for this record are fucked up..he says it's tech shit but people ain’t gonna give a fuck that it’s 3/16th notes or whatever the hell that means when they’re beating someones ass to it. This might be coming out online in a week or two? Keep ya eyez peeled.]
As someone who was on it early - what do you think of the development of GRISELDA in recent times and their growing fanbase, especially in the hardcore scene..who's some other artists you feel like SHOULD be getting the level of love they're getting?
It's a style of rap that I never thought I'd see in mainstream culture the way it is right now. Turning on my TV to see CONWAY on JIMMY FALON is still some bugged out shit I can't wrap my head around. It's ill to see guys like that grow to where they're at now though. There's a good amount of lesser-known guys within the same lane I rock with heavy like ROME STREETZ, SMOOVTH (Long Island shit). CRIMEAPPLE, RIGZ, etc. etc. If you're already up on this shit then you know what's good with him, but without ROC MARCI I don't think we'd be seeing such a renaissance of this type of music the way we're seeing it now. But there's definitely a new wave of GRISELDA fans that might not be aware of MARCI's contributions to the culture that should definitely be checking for him with the same frequency.
